Has anybody seen that silly “No Petrol Day” email, doing the forward rounds at the moment?
How naive can the writer,Bailey, and his followers be?
>>> IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.>>> AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
As petrol is currently seen as a commodity of need, rather than want, petrol pumpers will just fill up more, on the days before, supplementing any loss expected from the so-called “No Petrol Day”. Bowsers and tanks will not explode with too much petrol, nor will the the oil companies “choke on their stockpiles”, per se.
As this email and issue is obviously very public knowledge, it is very likely that the major actuaries, number crunchers and management at the large oil and gas companies are probably even preparing themselves in anticipation of the event, by calculating how to meet the consumer supply and demand around the day. I thoroughly wouldn’t be surprised if they expected demand to drop by a little, but only a little on the particular “No Petrol Day”, but the drop would be severely negated by an increased demand around that day. In other words, overall, this would do absolutely NOTHING to their bottom line!
Simple economic sense. Seriously, if the companies were actually in a positioned to be threatened, you would see share prices falling rapidly and dramatically. On the contrary – they’re doing exceptionally well!
